Well the BCPV team has had 2 preseason meets thus far, both at Grand Valley State University. Both have been successes with good preseason marks being posted by all the jumpers! These meets have highlighted the hard work put in by all the vaulters during the fall while getting ready for the start of the season!
On December 15th, the girls started the meet off with a bang, with no girl jumping under 10 feet, which is a first for Bethel Lady Vaulters. Danae Ellison jumped 10 which is a solid preseason mark for her. She had plent of height to clear higher marks, but just wasn't quite getting enough penetration into the pits in order to snake around the bar. Both Bekah Laman and Ann O'keefe cleared 10-6 to begin what looks to be a promising season for both vaulters! Each had one good attempt at 11, but fell just shy of the task! Caitlyn Gager cleared 11 feet on a third attempt clearance to tie the Bethel School Record and finish off a very successful first meet. On the mens side Zach Burrington cleared 4.90 meters or 16-1 to begin his season with a successful first meet.
January 12th was a meet of ups and downs. The Lady Vaulters performed well as 3 of the 4 vaulters improved on their December marks. Danae Ellison cleared a height of 10-2, which is a very good mark considering she did not get any pit time over christmas break, and this gives her a solid mark to build on! Bekah Laman, Ann O'keefe, and Caitlyn Gager all successfully cleared the height of 10-8 to finish off a very successful indoor season for the Lady Vaulters. On the mens side, BCPV Coach Danny Wilkerson cleared a new personal best height of 15-8 in a winning effort for the meet. Zach Burrington had a mishap on his first jump which led to an injury and a NH for the meet. Adam Short had a very good look at his first bar of the season, and barely missed 10 which would have been a personal best height.
All of the BCPV Jumpers look to build on this successful preseason this upcoming weekend as they travel to Reno, Nevada to compete in the National Pole Vault Summit at the Reno Hilton.
